Humble nature preserve explores world of box turtles

The Jesse H. Jones Park & Nature Center in Humble will hold the Box Turtles Presentation this July for anyone interested in learning more about these interesting creatures that call the preserve their home.

As a 312-acre nature preserve, the Jesse H. Jones Park & Nature Center offers paved and unpaved nature trails to explore, as well as traditional park amenities that people are accustom to. The preserve houses a nature center where guests can discover more about the flora and fauna of the surrounding area. The Nature Center frequently hosts class on topics relating to the ecology and inhabitants of the region.

The box turtle class will be led by Martin de Vore, a science communicator and journalist with a BA in English and Biology. Attendees will learn about box turtles, who are members of the Testudinae family, and inhabit the woods of the preserve. There will even be some turtles present for guests to meet. Afterwards, guests are encouraged to take a self-guided hike along the preserve’s trails.

Educational classes like this often include informative brochures that attendees can refer to during the class. Local brochure printing services may be helpful to organizers needing to prepare such materials.

The box turtle class is slated for July 12 from 3:00 pm to 4:00 pm. The Nature Center can be found at address 20634 Kenswick Drive.
