The focus of this particular meeting was educating businesses on how to stay afloat while the world deals with COVID-19.
BizCom is organized by the Lake Houston Area Chamber of Commerce. Speakers at this meeting included Jenna Armstrong (who serves as the chamber’s President and CEO), Congressman Dan Crenshaw, and Humble ISD’s Superintendent Elizabeth Fagen. Logo designs often feature in the top corner of live streams.
Crenshaw addressed the attendees via the Chamber’s YouTube channel. He spoke about the $2trillion stimulus package and the Checks adults can expect to receive in the coming months. The stimulus package will help, however, Crenshaw encouraged people to keep supporting area businesses as much as they can. He went on to say:
“We are all in this together. And I think Houstonians are pretty good at recognizing that and helping each other where we can. Let’s encourage each other to continue using each other’s businesses, as long as they are open.”
Mark Mitchell who serves as the President of Lake Houston Economic Development spoke about payroll assistance that will be given to business owners. The Paycheck Protection Program was launched on April 3 and it allows businesses to take loans that will be used to pay employees. Some costs such as interest and rent payments may be written off as long as 75% of those forgiven costs are used to pay employees.
