This year, the city will start on its multiyear plan to purchase a number of properties in the downtown area. These have been identified as attractive plots that could be used for new developments, and will be used for commercial developers or mixed-use projects.
Downtown’s revitalization plans took a hit in 2020. The city was still able to purchase the Old Wildcat Den at the end of the year. The building will be bulldozed with a plan to redevelop the site. Poster printing can be used to let the public know about plans for a specific plot.
The city hopes that it will not have to demolish every building it purchases. Some buildings will be renovated if it is at all possible. Stuebe also said:
“Realistically, I mean, we know a lot of things got blown up last year, and so I think we’re going to just try to be easing back into really the basics of normal functioning,”
Several infrastructure projects are expected to start this year. These include expanding the stretch of Rankin Road between Union Pacific Railroad and South Houston Avenue, rehabilitating the water tower, and improving the drainage on Dennis Street. The city expects to start on these projects as soon as possible.
