Leading up to the December 17 showing of the latest installment ‘The Force Awakens’, two Houston movie theaters showed all six previous movies in sequential order to throngs of adoring fans.
Nearly 300 die-hard Star Wars aficionados showed up at the AMC Gulf Pointe 30’s 16-hour showing of the series, some of whom, like Jay Diaz, were barely able to contain their excitement. He effused:
"It's about imagination at its core. That is what has gripped me from the day I watched it”
Diaz, like many of his fellow fans, was in full costume. Some dressed as Storm troopers or Jedi, while others merely carried toy light sabers or blasters.
Now that the film has been released, some theatres claim that they will need to show it every half hour to keep up with the ticket demand. Many have diverted almost all of their screens to the event. Not surprisingly, movie theaters are not the only businesses profiting from the excitement, with local Print shops likely to have benefited from Star Wars-related custom Print jobs, from the Banners local theaters are putting on display, to the Signs fans plan to wave while they wait in line.
