Buffalo Bayou Park nearly complete

After four years of hard work, the redesigned Buffalo Bayou Park in Houston is nearly ready to open its doors to the public.

The 160-acre area is poised to become the latest green space in the city. It was formerly known for its high levels of pollution, but that has been cleaned up and a facelift was given to the land, with the hope being that it will become a place where people can visit and enjoy a peaceful moment of tranquility in the bustling urban landscape.

The piece of land that has been transformed runs form Sabine Street to Sheppard Drive, and though it can be prone to seasonal floods, this was kept in mind by those who designed the new layout.

One of the features of the green space is Lost Lake, which has been created by damming a portion of the bayou. A building constructed of wood, glass and metal has been erected next to the lake on ground high enough to keep it dry should a flood occur.

Art lovers will also find something for them at the park, as six pieces that have been created by Anthony Schumate have been installed for the public to enjoy. Brochure printers can produce informational materials about the new green space, as well as maps of its trails and directional Signs.

The revamped Buffalo Bayou Park is scheduled to open on October 3.
