Rhino-centric event coming to Houston bowling center

The American Association of Zookeepers will present the Bowling for Rhinos 2014 event in June. The family-friendly fundraiser will take place at the Palace Bowling Lanes in Houston.

Saving endangered wildlife is a main goal for the association members. Reportedly, there are only five rhino species with approximately 25,000 animals alive today. They exist in Africa and regions of Asia, with most in South Africa. Poaching has been an ongoing problem in the area; therefore, protective measures are being put in place by zookeepers and philanthropists to save the rhinos. Increasing the white and black rhino population is a main objective.

Monetary donations help pay for tool kits, gasoline for the patrolling of protective areas, fingerprint kits to be used in identifying poachers, and help to feed rhinos in sanctuaries.

The Bowling for Rhinos event will include unlimited bowling for up to two hours, shoes, ball rental, giveaway items, and participation in the auction and raffle. Often, logo items to be used for giveaways are printed by local Print companies.

Many activities will be available for children, including the opportunity to meet Ricky the Rhino. Further, Monster PB&J will be at the event selling specialty sandwiches, which use freshly-ground nut butters along with local jams and fruit. An all-vegetarian menu is also part of the selection.

The Bowling for Rhinos 2014 will take place June 20th, from 6:00pm -10:00pm. Registration is available via the event website.
