Annual festival celebrates a Mexican tradition

The Dia de Los Muertos festival is taking place in Houston early next month.

Dia de Los Muertos, or Day of the Dead, is a Mexican holiday that celebrates those who have passed away. Guests are encouraged to bring photographs of their friends and relatives to whom they want to pay tribute.

The festival is set to feature a large Calavera that will be available for photo shoots and selfies. A Calavera is the representation of a human skull, usually made of sugar or clay.

There will be hands-on art activities for people of all ages, Mojigangas (clowns), a display of art cars, and living statues. Music will be provided by artists such as Baby Jay, Mariachi Calmecac, and Nueva Luna. Dance groups such as the PRO Status Cheer and Dance Company and Danzas Folkloricas de Solei will also be performing.

A variety of vendors will be on site to sell Mexican-related items and arts and crafts. Food trucks will also be on hand selling both Mexican and American foods and drinks.

Popular Houston events such as this are often advertised with the help of local flyer printing companies.

The festival will take place at Discovery Green on November 1 from 6:00 to 10:00 PM. Admission is free of charge. For the latest information about this event, visit the official website.
