Regional park has busy October schedule
Three events have been scheduled for Arlington’s Potomac Overlook Regional Park for October.
The Halloween season at the park will begin with an Owl Prowl. Guests will first learn about owl behavior, adaptations, and the nocturnal bird’s role in the local ecosystem, then take off on the trails to find some. Even if hikers cannot find any owls, they will get the opportunity to meet the park’s Eastern Screech Owl-Smoke.
The Owl Prowl will take place Wednesday, October 11 from 8:30 to 9:30 pm.
The annual Halloween Pumpkin Carving Bash will provide paint, tools, and pumpkins for little pumpkin decorators. Other amenities include a Halloween craft, candy, and spooky nocturnal critters experiences.
Tickets will be available for purchase for $20 for kids over four years old, and pre-registration is required.
The Pumpkin Carving Bash will be at the Center, 2845 Marcey Road, from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm on Saturday, October 21.
Spooky Serpents will be the theme for the next park event after that. Guests can get up-and-personal with the center’s resident snakes. The class will have an indoor component, tickets will be $7 for ages seven and older, and pre-registration is required.
Spooky Serpents will take place Saturday, October 28 from 3:00 pm to 4:00 pm.
Wildlife centers and parks like this often take pictures during their events and then give them to local stationery printers to be made into colorful postcards and notecard sets to be sold in their gift shops.
