Arlington Red Cross disaster center opens

The grand opening ceremony of the American Red Cross latest warehouse has taken place in Arlington, with the emergency help organization saying the facility is the biggest of its kind.

The Disaster Field Supply Center is said to have enough capacity to store emergency supplies to help up to 100,000 people stricken by disaster at a time.

Stretching for over 174,000 square-foot, the location of the site allows a quick response across the entire nation with good access to major airports and the road network.

Addressing the press, the CEO of the aid organisation for the North Texas Region said he was delighted to open in such a prime location area. T.D. Smyers went on to explain:

“From this strategic location along a major interstate, Red Cross teams will be able to quickly move supplies whenever and wherever they’re needed across America.”

The facility will store essential items like blankets, clothing, hygiene equipment, clean-up tools and cooking supplies. It will also act as the HQ for a newly created Disaster Action Team. The organization has also said it will have an additional function in the local community.

The American Red Cross has confirmed it will also host poster printing-led campaigns for blood donors and offer First Aid and CPR training.

The warehouse becomes the fifth such center in the country, with other sites located at key areas in Georgia, Missouri, Nevada, and Pennsylvania.
