Many veterans continue to fight a battle even after they return home, and a Memphis event will seek to both show support and solidarity to these former service members from both their colleagues and the general public.
During Irreverent Warrior Silkies hikes, former military members use humor to help heal the wounds that are not always visible to the eye. While civilians will not participate directly, the organizers explained that their support along the route can make a big difference in the overall success of the event.
The participants in the hike will meet at Bass Pro Shops at the Pyramid, and will follow a route that is 22 miles long. They will each carry a ruck that weighs 22 kilograms while wearing their combat boots and silkies. The march itself is open to active duty personnel as well as reservists and veterans. The registration fee will vary based upon which option is selected, and donations will also be most welcome.
The organizers of the Silkies Hike noted that they wish to draw attention to the impact PTSD can have on former service members. An assortment of Promotional Products, including T-Shirts, hoodies, memorial bracelets, and sticker packs that include the organization’s Logo Design can be purchased by the registrants if they wish to do so.
The Memphis Irreverent Warriors Silkies Hike will be taking to the streets on September 14. The participants are asked to be at the staging area at 8:00 am.
