The St. Jude Memphis Marathon Weekend is taking place in the city over three days in December. It is a fundraising event for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, which provides free medical care to those who need it.
The event will be kicked off with a health and fitness expo, which is also where race participants can pick up their information packets. It will give a showcase to more than 100 exhibitors, including equipment suppliers, race promotions, housewares, food, and nonprofit community groups.
There are several races participants can sign up for, such as a marathon, half-marathon, relay, the 5K kids run, and a family fun run. Trophies will be given to the top three finishers in the divisions of open, master, senior masters, grand masters, and wheelchair. Plaques will also be given to the top three in a number of age group categories.
Race participants can choose whether to collect pledges to raise funds or not. Fees to participate in the marathon are $125 with pledges or $160 without, while the 5K costs $45 or $55 and the kids run and family fun run is $20. The half marathon and the relay are sold out.
