This past year has been a tough one for many of the senior citizens who call Memphis home, and a program that will bring some cheer to these older adults over the holidays has put out a call out to the community for assistance.
More than 300 homebound seniors will be the beneficiaries of a program that will show them their community cares. It is being organized by Meritans, and anyone who is interested is invited to get involved.
The group is connecting members of the public with an older adult who is homebound because they are frail or for other reasons. These secret “Santa’s helpers” will be asked to make a monetary donation or contribute a gift in kind to their senior, and the organizers noted that it can be a great project idea for schools, businesses, or community service clubs.
To help make it easy for the public to support this initiative, a list of items seniors often need has been prepared. A poster printing company can craft an assortment of materials that can raise public awareness about this sort of activity, and these often aid in creating a successful event.
This chance for the public to bring some holiday cheer to a lonely senior in need will be accepting registrations from members of the public who would like to help up until December 11. Its website includes information about how the community can get involved.
