Memphis takes worldly approach to May
The Memphis in May International Festival is returning to the city, running for 22 days next month.
The festival consists of four different events. It all starts off with the Beal Street Music Festival, which is a three-day event with four stages. This year, confirmed performers include Lenny Kravitz, Ed Sheeran, and John Fogerty.
The next event is an International Salute of Poland which will take place over six days. This will consist of cultural performances, heritage displays, and educational events. It will feature a teachers’ conference and a welcome back for several exchange students.
The World Championship of Barbecue Cooking contest is then being held over three days. The event will finish off with a fireworks display and a performance by the Memphis Symphony.
This year's poster was designed by artist Lester Merriweather. No doubt organizers will be working with Memphis poster printing companies to distribute the official poster throughout the community.
The Memphis in May International Festival will take place from May 1 – 23, with the Beale Street Music Festival getting things underway at Tom Lee Park from May 1 to 3; tickets are $40 for each day or $95 for all three days.
The Salute to Poland runs from May 4 to 9 and the World Championship of Barbecue Cooking will be held from May 14 - 16. To get the most up-to-date information about this festival, call 901-525-4611.
