Memphis hike to help support veterans mental health
A program that uses laughter to help lighten the burden often carried by veterans will be coming to Memphis, and the support of the community will be appreciated.
Irreverent Warriors Silkies Hikes have been hosted all across the country, and Memphis will soon be joining their ranks. The hike itself is open to only active duty military personnel, veterans, reservists and National Guard members. The goal is to create a healing environment for all the participants, and it will offer lots of camaraderie along the way.
The organizers of the gathering explained that vets tend to use humor to cope with the psychological burden they often carry, and this sort of function can help them to build a strong support network of people who know what it is like to stand in their boots. The civilian community is invited to get involved by attending the start and finish line festivities and cheering the group on as it goes by. A banner printing business can prepare signs and other items that can be installed along the route that will be followed during this sort of function.
This opportunity to take a stand in support of veterans and their mental health is tentatively scheduled to kick off at the Bass Pro Shop Pyramid at 1st Bass Pro Drive in Memphis on October 3. More details can be found by visiting its online listing.
