Memphis event to put spotlight on native plants

While they may not always be as showy as their cultivated cousins, native plants offer many advantages, and these will be shared during a local special event.

Memphis’ Urban Earth Gardens has gathered an assortment of subject matter experts who will be sharing their horticultural expertise during the “Back to Nature-Gardening with Native Plants” workshop. This one-hour activity is on offer free of charge, and all members of the public are welcome.

The session will offer tips for choosing native plants, including which cultivars tend to perform best in the garden. The participants will discover how to select species for different purposes, such as attracting wildlife, preventing erosion or growing food, and they will also find out how to care for their new plantings, including the importance of compost and other soil amendments. There will be a review of why it makes sense to choose plants with a local provenance.

Hosting an activity like this offers a way for a business to connect with the community, and Print shops can aid in making it a success. They can supply backdrops, Posters, and other visual learning aids, as well as a full line of other materials.

This opportunity for local green thumbs to get a jump start on the upcoming season is scheduled for March 27. It will be offered at 80 Flicker Street.
