Warwick Hyatt Hotel on again due to RI tax incentives

A long conceived and approved Warwick project is getting new life breathed into it, thanks to an announcement by the Commerce RI Board on June 27.

State tax incentives of $5.2m has been approved by the state commerce board for a 120-room Hyatt Hotel on Jefferson Boulevard. According to Scott Avedisian, Warwick’s mayor, it will hopefully be just the first of three or four projects to grace City Centre Warwick made possible by state incentives.

The hotel site is to be a former asphalt plant and present location of the D’Ambra Construction headquarters. The city gave its approval eight years ago for what was to be a hotel, retail space, and a block of office buildings, but due to the recession the project got shelved. However, now with city and state tax incentives, the project is being revived.

In May of 2018, the newly printed Warwick Hyatt’s letterhead will greet the hotel’s first customers. D’Ambra Construction will be building the six-story hotel and anticipates breaking ground by the end of 2016. Company president, Michael D’ Ambra, has stated that the project will likely come in at under $24m and will be geared toward the business traveler. In addition to an exercise room and swimming pool, four or five rooms will be available for business conferences or meetings.
