Warwick addresses healthcare-associated infections

Professionals will gather in Warwick to discuss strategies for reducing healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) at the upcoming Bridging the Gap conference.

Hosted by the Rhode Island Department of Health (RIDOH), the event will bring together experts to share research, protocols, and best practices for improving patient safety.

The conference will open with a keynote address from Dr. Kerry LaPlante, Dean of the University of Rhode Island College of Pharmacy. She will focus on antimicrobial stewardship as well as antibiotic resistance. Sessions will include discussions on early sepsis treatment and recognition, infection control during treatment transitions, and public health communication strategies.

Dr. Jennifer Nuzzo, director of the pandemic branch at Brown University, will lead a session on emerging infectious diseases and pandemic preparedness. The event will conclude with a panel discussion featuring RIDOH epidemiology and emergency preparedness experts.

Attendees will include healthcare administrators, infection prevention experts, pharmacists, infectious disease doctors, and public health professionals. The goal is to foster collaboration among hospitals, government agencies, and industry leaders to improve patient care and reduce HAIs.

The conference will take place on Thursday, May 22, from 8:00 am to 12:30 pm at the Radisson Hotel Providence Airport, 2081 Post Rd, Warwick. Early bird registration is available for $30 until two weeks today on April 20, with standard pricing at $40 beginning Monday, April 21.
