University in Massachusetts continues capital campaign

The University of Massachusetts Boston has moved past halfway in its efforts to raise capital of $100 million.

At a recent gala evening, it was declared that $52 million had already been gathered. Stationery printers in Warwick could be contacted if the ongoing campaign would benefit from this move. The head of the university in question, Chancellor Keith Motley, has urged:

“Just imagine the potential of the University of Massachusetts Boston to do more, to do more to respond to the communities we serve, to do more to support vital economic development and advance social change.”

The campaign for funding is taking place in a context where the university has recently spent a lot of resources on construction. Little building for academic purposes had been done on the site since back in the 1970s.

Earlier in 2015, the university unveiled an Integrated Sciences Center. This building has over 200,000 square feet in which to accommodate staff and students. It cost over $180 million to put up the structure. One aim of the project was to boost the institution in terms of its research status.

The campaign drive has several objectives. It is hoped that $50 million will be raised to fund student assistance programs, while the idea is that up to $30 million will be collected to boost staff recruitment and research. Half the remaining target is to be allocated to buildings if things go to plan.
