A Providence organization that helps to support provide affordable housing and other community development projects has been awarded funding from Rhode Island Housing.
The state’s chapter of the Local Initiatives Support Corporation ( LISC), which was the recipient of the $500,000 amount, remarked that it will ensure that it gets put to good use. It is a revolving loan fund that can be accessed by community-based not-for-profit groups that are focused on helping to revitalize local neighborhoods and provide a good quality of life to community residents.
The fund was first set up back in 1991 through a $700,000 grant that was provided by Rhode Island Housing. Through the program, the LISC has, over the years, provided financing that has met the early-stage expenses of many affordable homes.
Barbara Fields, who is the Executive Director of Rhode Island Housing, remarked that this funding will help investments to get off to a good start, which is a critical factor in the early stages of the development.
