Annual expo gives local publishers a forum

The Rhode Island Independent Publishing Expo, also known as RipExpo, is taking place for two days this August in Providence.

The expo is a showcase for independent small presses, self-published comics, Books, and zines. Publishers from all over North America are expected to travel to this event to share their work and to hold panel discussions. So far, three panels have been announced. Topics include ‘Art for Girls: the Representation of Experience’, a discussion about poetry comics, and tips on how to write an autobiographical comic.

This year's special guests are Jacob Kepler of ‘Mother News’, Lale Westvind, Susie X, Sophie Yanow, and local artist Mickey Zacchilli - all of whom will be participating in the various panels. Exhibitors will also be offering some of their merchandise for sale and displaying some of their best work.

Those who are interested in attending the expo are also being asked to download and Print the event flyer to distribute in their area.

The expo might attract many who work for Providence graphics and printing companies. Studying the work of others may inspire them in their own work.

The event is being held at the Providence Public Library from August 2 to 3 from 12:00 pm - 6:00 pm each day. Admission is free. To find out more about the expo, call 401-455-8090.
