North Versailles budding green thumbs to enjoy planting event

A program that will welcome Girl Scouts from North Versailles and the surrounding communities will help them to earn one of their badges, and the general public is also encouraged to get involved as well.

Fairy Garden Day, which is an initiative of the Allegheny Land Trust, will offer a chance to get some hands-on horticultural experience. Each child will be able to participate along with one of their parents or guardians, and while they tackle their projects, the adult attendees will be able to socialize and enjoy watching the kids learn and have fun.

The plan for the morning will see each of the registrants craft a mini fairly garden of their own to take home, and while they work, they will be making discoveries about planting and how to care for a garden. The Girl Scouts will earn their Gardener and Flower badges, and as it will be held outdoors rain or shine, the registrants should dress for the weather.

Offering youngsters an experience like this is one way an organization can help foster a lifelong love of nature. Brochure printing companies will be able to supply Booklets that offer plant care tips and other information to distribute to the learners.

Girl Scout Fairy Garden Day will start at 10:00 am on May 1. Dead Man's Hollow Conservation Area, which is located in McKeesport, will provide space for the activity.
