Urgent care facility to open in Glenside area

Abington officials recently announced that an urgent care facility will open in the township. This marks a change from the original plans, which called for senior housing.

The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) is planning to build one of its outpatient centers for urgent care and specialty treatment on the property formerly belonging to the Abington YMCA. The Y will move to Willow Grove later this year.

Original plans for the site called for a housing development to be known as Abington Terrace, an apartment complex planned for those age 55 and over. Instead, BET Investments decided to sign an agreement with CHOP to develop its facility instead. The services to be offered at this center will be similar to those found at CHOP Specialty Care, Princeton. Operators of such facilities can use brochure printing to explain the services offered.

Both CHOP and BET officials were at a recent community meeting, where they provided additional information, including preliminary drawings of the new project, and answered questions from area residents. The new clinic will be within easy reach for residents from neighboring Glenside.

The ‘Philadelphia Business Journal’ reported on the project, saying that it is the CHOP Care Network's latest expansion. The network now has over 50 facilities of all kinds, including community hospital alliances, urgent care centers, surgical centers, specialty care centers, and primary care offices throughout New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania.
