Royalty, of sorts, coming to Glenside

A Queen is to set foot in Glenside soon—the band, that is.

“One Night of Queen” is a live presentation that celebrates the music of the legendary band. The musicians who are sharing the band's catalog are Gary Mullen & The Works, who have been recreating Queen performances and touring since 2008.

The tribute began in 2000, when Gary Mullen won “Stars in Their Eyes,” a television show in the UK, impersonating Freddie Mercury. Winning the competition brought in an enormous public demand for more of Mullen's Mercury impersonations, and he created “One Night of Queen” in 2002. The concerts reproduce Queen's performances, including using the same special effects and staging of the original, including a special lighting rig that emulates one used by Queen on tour in the 1980s.

Like almost all bands, The Works membership has changed over time. Joining Mullen on this tour are David Brockett, Jon Halliwell, Malcolm Gentles, and Billy Moffat, who are often in demand for studio recording sessions.

A review of the tribute band praised all the musicians, but singled out Mullen, saying he:

“. . . brought legendary Queen front man Freddie Mercury back to life in a two-hour energy-filled concert that had toddlers to grandparents dancing in the aisles.”

“One Night of Queen” is scheduled for April 25 at 8:00 pm at the Keswick Theatre, with doors opening at 7:00 pm. Poster printing can provide attractive advertising for concerts of this type.
