Montgomery County has new communications director

After Frank Custer retired this May, Montgomery County officials faced the tough job of finding a replacement for a popular and effective official. They have chosen Lorie Slass, who takes up her new position on Monday, August 1, to succeed Custer.

Slass worked for the American Board of Internal Medicine for nine years and, since 2013, has served as the senior vice president for communications. Val Arkoosh, a Montgomery County commissioner, described Slass' qualifications for the position, noting she is experienced in the private, nonprofit, and public health policy sectors. Her wide variety of communications experience gives her unique qualifications for the directorship, Arkoosh says.

Slass attended Tulane University where she studied communications, and is a graduate of the Annenberg School for Communication at the University of Pennsylvania. Before working at the American Board of Internal Medicine, she worked with the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, the Pew Charitable Trusts, and the Annenberg Public Policy Center, as well as several others.

Josh Shapiro, the county commission chairman, said Ms. Slass will be an important asset in developing the message that Montgomery County, which includes Glenside, is a great place to work, live, and visit. He believes she will be able to highlight the county's past accomplishments as well as its future developments.

Agencies like these can benefit by working with postcard printing companies, which can develop mailers to announce similar developments to residents.
