The Spruance Gallery at Arcadia University in Glenside is hosting a reception to highlight its Quentin Morris exhibition next month.
Quentin Morris: Works on Paper opened on June 13 and is on display through September 17. The exhibit features more than 30 drawings and paintings from several points throughout the artist’s 50-year career.
Morris is a Philadelphia-based artist who works exclusively in black. His aim is to show off the color’s beauty while challenging the cultural assumptions and narratives surrounding it. The exhibited pieces have never been shown before and include unconventional materials like mailers and commercial wrapping paper.
The July reception will be hosted by the Arcadia Exhibitions staff. They will lead attendees through the exhibition and discuss the works displayed. Food and drinks will be served, and the event is free to attend. Universities often use flyer printing services to promote their cultural events to students and the community.
Philadelphia gallery Larry Becker Contemporary Art represents Morris. His drawings and paintings are displayed as part of the permanent collections of such museums as Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts and the Carnegie Museum. A future event in Glenside, A Dialogue With Quentin Morris, is planned for September at the Spruance Gallery.
The Exhibition Tour and Reception will take place on Thursday, July 13, from 6:30 pm to 8:00 pm at the Spruance Gallery.
