Glenside’s annual Independence Day celebration will take place once again this July 4th.
The celebration is a three-part event throughout the day. It will begin with the Children’s Morning Program at 10:00 am in Renninger Memorial Park. Children can decorate bikes, strollers and wagons and compete for prizes, and two will be named Little Mr. and Miss Glenside. Then, the Grand, Glorious, Patriotic Parade will follow a 1.5 mile path through Glenside, starting at 4:00 pm and lasting about two hours. In the evening, the America the Beautiful Aerial Fireworks Spectacular will take place at Abington Junior and Senior High School.
The non-profit Greater Glenside Patriotic Association puts on the parade. The event has been running since 1904, making it the country’s longest running Independence Day parade. It’s also one of the area’s largest. The Glenside parade has drawn crowds of up to 30,000 people in past years, making it larger than Philadelphia’s 4th of July parade. The fireworks display has also drawn large crowds of up to 15,000. Organizations often use flyer printing services to promote this type of community event.
The parade and the rest of the celebration are free to attend and family friendly. Attendees can visit the event website for a map of suggested parking locations. The event will take place throughout the day on Monday, July 4th in downtown Glenside.
