This winter, kids in Butler will have a chance to take part in an activity that will give them hands-on experience in environmental stewardship.
Succop Nature Park will be hosting a kids’ version of the Christmas Bird Count. Designed to be family friendly, it will be led by a naturalist who will teach those who participate how to watch and identify birds, and provide instruction to them in how to record their observations. They will also learn about the importance of the count and how the data that is generated through activities like this can be put to use by scientists from all over the world who are studying migration patterns and population shifts. Organizers of an event like this can utilize booklet printing services to create customized field Notebooks and promotional Pens, which they can distribute to all those who come out to participate in the day’s activities.
The event is being offered free of charge, and is geared towards school-age children and their families. Parents are asked to register their child ahead of time, and they must accompany them throughout the activity. Those who come out are asked to dress appropriately for the weather.
The Kids’ Christmas Bird Count will be held in Succop Nature Park on January 7 from 10:00 am until 12:00 pm. More information is available on the Butler County website.
