State police plans $3.5 million Butler barracks facelift

An extensive renovation and addition will take place at the Pennsylvania State Police’s old barracks here in Butler.

When finished, the anticipated $3.5 million spent will result in a two-story, 6,000 square foot addition to the barracks, which was built in 1949. The additions will include equipment storage space and new locker rooms. The added space will also bring together the criminal investigative units with the patrol units in the same building, as they had been separate before.

Among the renovations to the property and the building are the upgrading of the communications room, installation of replacement windows, and upgrades to heating and cooling systems. Pennsylvania’s Bureau of Historic Preservation is being consulted on the renovation project and the replacement windows will have the same appearance as the windows now in place.

There will also be the addition of a rain garden to prevent runoff from reaching New Castle Road. It will be challenging, but troopers will continue to work out of the Butler barracks while the construction and the renovations are taking place. Since they will not be relocated, even temporarily, there will be no need to contact business card printing services for replacement cards.

While the number of troopers stationed at the barracks is not public knowledge, there are almost 4,400 state troopers in the state. Troop D is headquartered at the Butler barracks and covers, in addition to Butler County, Armstrong, Beaver, Lawrence, and Mercer.
