Butler water mains work set to flow ahead

Pennsylvania American Water announced at the start of the month that it planned to replace many of its aging water mains in the area.

According to Mark Smith, Field Operations Manager for Pennsylvania American Water Northwest, a proactive approach is being taken with over five miles of water mains. The company expects to spend $4.5m on replacing pipes, some of which may date back to the early 1900s.

Following inspections of area water mains, portions of the City of Butler are among the areas that are slated to receive replacement mains. Moreover, parts of Butler Township, Saxonburg Borough, and Center Township can expect new water mains as well as.

Customers may experience short-term interruption of water service, low water pressure, and discolored water while the work is being conducted in their area. Ideally, with the assistance of a flyer printing service, residents can be given a general idea of when their neighborhood will be affected.

The work to be done in updating the water mains will include not only pipe installation, but service connections and repaving as well. Among the part of Butler to have their water systems updated are the North Seventh and McClain Avenues.

Pennsylvania American Water, which is a subsidiary of the commonwealth’s largest water utility, American Water, expects to have the work completed by fall.
