Gas prices in Butler, and the rest of the state as well, have recently seen a sharp decline, which is welcome news to many drivers who are finding it more affordable to fill up.
The reason behind this fall is that the price for crude oil on the world market has lowered to $28 a barrel, and there may even be more than what the market can currently use.
According to KDKA money editor Jon Delano, he was told by Don Bowers, who is an analyst for the energy sector, that OPEC is continuing to produce crude oil. So long as they do, the gas prices will remain low and may even drop further. He predicted that they could even hit $1.70 per gallon, but stated that he does not think they will drop below that due to the taxes that the state places on gasoline.
Local drivers told CBS News that they were really pleased with how inexpensive it is to fill up their vehicles right now, and that they did not think that they would ever see gas prices at their current level. Poster printing businesses can produce advertising materials that let the public know about the savings.
A senior petroleum analyst with GasBuddy has predicted that fuel will continue to remain inexpensive until March, when many refineries are closed for maintenance. After that, they should go back down again.
