The 67th annual Butler Farm Show, which ran from August 10 to 15, has had another successful year.
Always popular, although sometimes confused with the Big Butler Fair, The Butler Farm Show is held each year here in Butler at its own fairgrounds at 625 Evans City Road. This year, attendees who came to embrace their inner farmer no doubt missed the many plain and fancy chickens they usually see on display. The Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture, in order to stem the spread of avian bird-flu, had banned poultry at all farms shows in the state this year.
Visitors, however, were still able to get a close-up view of more than 1,000 farm animals. Additionally, although the barn usually reserved for rabbits and chickens held only rabbits, it did house a pictorial display in lieu of the usual approximately 400 chickens.
Ken Metrick, Junior 4-H Club Leader in Butler County, said the chickens will hopefully return for the 2016 show, giving the poster printing service tasked with promoting the event something notable to advertise.
In addition to the farm animals, the Butler Farm Show, with its 12,000 square feet of exhibit space, once again hosted the largest display of antique tractors, farm animals, and farm equipment in Western Pennsylvania. Moreover, there were nearly 300 vendors, demonstrations, arts and crafts, rides, and tractor pulls, all of which were within the show’s 100-acre site.
