The International Canoe Federation (ICF) has decided to move the ICF Stand Up Paddling World Cup and the Canoe Sprint Super Cup for 2022 from Moscow, Russia to Oklahoma City.
The location change came about following the International Olympic Committee’s (IOC) announcement to relocate international competition away from Russia due to its invasion of Ukraine.
In mid-March the ICF got in touch with the American Canoe Association (ACA) to discuss the possibility of both events being moved to Oklahoma City.

Athletes from over a dozen countries came to Oklahoma after competing in Tokyo last summer to take part in the Canoe Sprint Super Cup. The internationally televised event took place on the Oklahoma River and was for the first time held at night. As Mike Knopp, the executive director of RIVERSPORT, explained:
“The Oklahoma River is the only sanctioned racecourse in the world to have permanent lighting for night racing. The athletes and spectators worldwide were enthusiastic about the unique racing experience. It just adds another level of excitement to an already adrenaline-fueled event.”
The board of directors for RIVERSPORT will look to state and city officials, and members of the business community, to fund hospitality and other costs associated with the event.
Dates for these cup races, which will take place in August, are to be announced in early April.
