Edmond City Council will decide if there will be bathrooms built in Stephenson Park, which is expected to cost $300,000.
The upgrade to the park will allow the Rodkey House to be used as an event and education annex for the Edmond Historical Society and Museum. The historical society will be working with city officials and the Department of Parks and Recreation to make this happen.
An anonymous donor gave the Edmond Historical Society $100,000 to upgrade and build utilities inside the historical residence. It was built by the owner of the Rodkey Mill, Isaac Rodkey, around 1900. It was relocated near Littler Avenue in Stephenson Park in 2007 after its donation.
According to historical society's executive director Anita Schlaht, patrons of the house must have access to restrooms that conform to the Americans with Disabilities Act in order for the organization to get the donation. They will be able to furnish the house with the $25,000 grant they are expected to receive.
The house will be an addition to the society's education program and available to rent for special occasions like weddings. The proposed plan would fulfill the needs of the space without altering the house's integrity.
A couple planning to get married will want to see the perks of having the ceremony at the Rodkey House in a brochure with a formal theme.
