The Oklahoma City RedHawks have changed their name to the Dodgers, according to Mandalay Baseball, LLC.
Michael Byrnes, General Manager and President of the team, stated that when ownership of the team changed in September, there were talks of changing the team name as well. It was decided that the team would be named after the Los Angeles Dodgers, which is part of Mandalay Baseball. The Los Angeles Dodgers consider their headquarters now to be in Oklahoma City, so the name seemed fitting to team leaders and stakeholders.
With the new names comes a redesigned logo, which will combine Oklahoma City's culture and the LA Dodger's ‘shooting ball’, which has been a symbol for the team since the late 1930s. The home jerseys and hats look like those of the LA and Brooklyn Dodgers respectively. Graphic design director Ross Yoshida was adamant about creating a design for the team that Oklahoma could be proud of, but one that still displayed elements of the franchise.
It will be the third name the Oklahoma City team has had since Triple-A baseball started in 1962. The name of the original team was the 89ers before it became the RedHawks.
Big name clients like sports team owners often have their own graphic designers for a team logo. Working with graphic designers to create an ideal logo is a big part of being a professional printing company.
