The Oklahoma City Council has recently given its final approval for the $42 million MAPS 4 animal shelter, which will replace the current structure being used by OKC Animal Welfare.
The new facility, which will be built on the northern most edge of the current animal shelter property at SE 29th Street, will be 69,602 square feet. It will feature four entrances to handle the various services provided including intake, adoption, training, and clinics, improving hygiene and safety.
Print shops can produce educational pamphlets covering a wide assortment of topics that can be utilized by the shelter.
The new establishment will have nearly 550 dog kennels, which is over twice the number now available, as well as a dramatic increase in cat condos - to over 300. Another improvement will be the separation of dogs and cats in their own wings, thereby creating a more peaceful and quieter atmosphere.
Low-maintenance, sanitary, and durable materials will be used throughout the facility. Each kennel will feature a window for natural light, and there will be outdoor play areas covered in artificial turf, meeting spaces, and a training room.
Construction, according to officials, is scheduled to begin in 2025 and will be conducted in two phases. The first phase will be the construction of the primary shelter building, while phase two will include the addition of a pasture, 2,800-square-foot-barn, parking, and once the new facility is up and running, the demolition and clearing away of the old facility.Get a Free Quote for Print
