Edmond, part of the Oklahoma City Metropolitan Area, is creating another trail in the area near Arcadia Lake, continuing one that goes around the entire lake.
Just over three miles long, Spring Creek Trail will be built by Oklahoma City's Rudy Construction in Spring Creek Park on the eastern side of the creek, with Fox Lake Lane to the south.
The split bid will cost just over $2m for the first part. According to assistant city manager Steve Commons, the Department of Transportation need to approve the second part of the trail, since part of it goes under Interstate 35. It will cost around $660,000, paid for by a 2000 small tax increase.
The city will enlist the help of MKEC Engineering Consultants' designs for $176,300. Larry Stevens, city manager, commented that people on foot and on bikes will have enough room on the 18 foot trail.
There will be two ceremonies for groundbreaking by officials from Edmond: Edmond Land Conservancy, and The Arcadia Lake Trail Coalition. The first is on October 24, and the second will be after the next part of the trail is approved.
Images of the completed trail would make a scenic picture for Edmond Postcards. A postcard printing company with experience capturing natural colors, and perhaps action, shots could allow the city to show off its new trail to tourists.
