Midwest Wrecking has been awarded the $11m contract by the OKC council to bring down Prairie Surf, with the process beginning in April and expected to take a minimum of five months.
Program manager for OKC’s MAPS program David Todd explained:
"City council decided this is the best site for this. We put together plans, we've bid those plans and today city council approved the contract to do the demolition."

Logistical challenges resulting from the size of the project and the immense amount of concrete it contains will extend the building’s demolition through the end of September. Nevertheless, disruption in services is expected to be limited, with only some street and sidewalk access being unavailable and short periods of streetcar services interrupted as a result of the pedestrian bridge demolition.
Despite the challenges, Todd expressed confidence that the project will be completed on time. The MAPS program manager pointed out that the present building on the site was the largest structure attempted by the city at the time of its construction, yet it was finished on schedule and under budget.
The arena’s construction is expected to begin in 2026 and finish up by 2028.
