Recently, the TIF Review Committee of the Classen Corridor Revitalization approved a taxpayer-funded loan of $3m to provide renovations for the Oklahoma City Gold Dome located at Classen and NW 23rd.
Kismet Koncerts’ Mike Brown, a music venue operator and promoter from Tulsa, will be leading the project. The funding will be via GOLT bonds from the Safer Streets, Safer Cities fund. The project will involve cleaning up the exterior, completing upgrades to the interior, and making repairs to the roof, which in total Brown anticipates will cost $10m.
Expectations are that the 3,000-seat venue will create in the neighborhood of a million dollars per year in revenue via the hosting of about 65 events per year.
Entertainment venues utilize Print shops in a number of ways, including their poster, flyer, and banner printing services to promote events.
The next step is for the proposal to be presented to the Oklahoma City’s Economic Development trust for its approval before being passed along to the city council. If all goes as hoped for, the project should be finished by early 2026.
The Gold Dome was built in 1958 and has faced the threat of demolition several times over the years, but repeated campaigns from preservationists have prevented the destruction of this iconic and historic building.
