Charity hands out scholarships for Oklahoma City students

The Oklahoma City branch of Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) recently gave 21 students scholarships to college.

The seniors who graduated this year attended a ceremony on July 4 at Mercy Hospital in the McAuley Conference Center, where they received scholarships totaling $92,000. The students were from 19 cities in the northern part of Texas and Oklahoma, including Oklahoma City.

There were 15 students from Oklahoma City who earned a $1,000 scholarship, including Courtney Duckett, Yana Dyachkova, Abel Calderon, and Bryant Colin. Six students in the area earned $2,000 in scholarships, including Hayden McAlpin and Dat Truong. Each student applied online for one of the four scholarship programs offered by RMHC and were chosen on the basis of their grades, a personal essay, community efforts, and their needs for financial aid.

From 2003 to the present, Oklahoma City's branch of RMHC has given away scholarships totaling over half a million dollars. According to the CEO and president Susan Adams, the organization is happy to help students pursue their dreams in college.

Many scholarships come with a certificate identifying that a student earned it.
