Ballet show goes on in Oklahoma City

Despite season modifications, the Oklahoma City Ballet will present Firebird next month.

The theme of the 2020/2021 season is Keep on Dancing. Performances will consist of one act centering on ballets based on fairy tales the company has done before, which have been shortened and rewritten. This is to avoid intermissions. Young children are encouraged to attend at this time due to the theme and length of the upcoming performances.

The plays that could not be modified to one act will move to the 2021/2022 season, which is also the 50th anniversary of the company.

One of the folk tales the ballet has chosen to perform is Firebird. The story revolves around Prince Ivan, who comes upon a number of young women being held hostage malicious wizard. He can free them with the help of a small, enchanted bird with feathers that can protect him.

Robert Mills, the artistic director of the play, tells the legend of good against evil in his own way. The performance also includes a unique composition by Igor Stravinsky.

The OKC Ballet will perform Firebird in the Thelma Gaylord Performing Arts Theatre in the Civic Center Music Hall. The address is 201 North Walker Avenue.

Tickets range from $25-$87 depending on the date of the performance, and location of seat. Military personnel and students with valid ID get a discount.

There will be three performances of Firebird, which are February 12 and 13 at 7:30 pm, and February 14 at 2:00 pm. Print shops create programs for plays and ballets.
