Americana musician to appear in Oklahoma City

A musician who blends the genres of rock, country, folk, and blues is on the way to Oklahoma City.

He was born Alejandro Rose-Garcia, but now goes by Shakey Graves, a name he and a group of friends made up around a campfire one night. Although the name was a joke, he decided to keep it. Fans might recognize him from his appearances in film and television projects including the “Spy Kids” films, and “Friday Night Lights.”

He began his musical career as a one-man group and released debut LP “Roll the Bones,” in 2011. His playing style led the Edward Sharpe and Mumford & Sons Railroad Revival Tour to ask him to “busk” for them at each venue. From there, he released his 2012 EP, “The Donor Blues,” and was signed by Dualtone Records.

In 2014, Graves began performing as part of a three-piece group, which debuted on “Conan” that year. They also appeared on the “Late Show with David Letterman,” and “Late Night with Seth Meyers.” They appeared on “Austin City Limits” in 2015, and that year, the Americana Music Awards named Graves their “Best Emerging Artist.”

A review of a recent Graves concert in Austin described the return as “triumphant.”
