The Youngstown Symphony Orchestra recently announced its 2019-2020 season, and music lovers have a lot to be excited about.
The season that ends soon comprised three pops concerts, and two classical shows, while the upcoming year will offer four classical performances, in addition to three pops shows. The orchestra will also move its classical offerings to the Ford Family Recital Hall, a smaller venue than the Powers, where both types of performances are currently given. The theaters are in the DeYor Performing Arts Center, and are adjacent.
The reason for the change is that audiences for classical works are generally smaller than the numbers drawn by the pops, which means that a classical concert in a large space often has a lot of seats empty. Moving to a smaller venue means the orchestra will fill the hall, which then gives the group the chance to use “rush” ticketing, selling seats just before the show starts. Poster printing provides a great way for organizations like this to advertise the current performance.
The classical performances begin on September 28 with the Carl Stamitz’s Viola Concert in D Major performed by Michael Isaac Strauss, the principal violist of the YSO. Other composers’ works to be heard throughout the season include those of Bach and Mozart. The Pops begin December 7, with ‘A Country Christmas’, and plans a tribute concert to John Williams later in the year.
Season tickets go on sale in April, and single tickets will be available in July.
