An amount of $20.5m in Institutional Impact Grants has been awarded by the Educating Character Initiative (ECI) of Wake Forest University, supporting 44 projects that impact 49 universities and colleges.
News of such awards may be of interest to residents of Youngsville, which is just four miles from the University.
A long-term initiative will be undertaken by each institution to advance character education for its undergraduate students. These grants, which are for up to $1m each and run over three years, will empower faculty, staff, and leaders to integrate character into the programs and curricula for undergraduate students to align with their culture, context, and mission.
A wide range of institutions are supported by these grants, including private colleges and universities, liberal arts colleges, large public institutions, and research universities. There are also multi-institutional grants that support collaborations among nine institutions.
Among the projects selected are expanding engagement by the community, enhancing first-year seminars, developing nursing programs, and revising the core curricula of general education. Executive director of the ECI, Jennifer Rothschild, said the recipients of these grants are committed to creating programs that will focus on character development in their institutional communities, as well as among their students.
