Greg Kibler, the deputy data chief of Youngstown City Schools, will be one of the presenters at the upcoming South By Southwest (SXSW) educators' conference in Austin, Texas.
Kibler will be one of a panel of four who will take as their subject ‘Analyze, Act, Reflect: A Refreshed Approach to Data’. The three other panelists come from the West Virginia Department of Education, the New York City Department of Education, and Harvard University's Center for Education Policy Research.
The chief of information for the Youngstown School District, John LaPlante, said he's happy to see the progress Youngstown is making in being recognized outside the local area. LaPlante noted that Greg's efforts were vital in developing innovative ways for the schools to use data to improve both learning and teaching. He added he was not surprised that SXSW selected Kibler to be one of the presenters at an educational conference that is one of the most important in the nation.
The panel discussion is an offshoot of The Strategic Data Project, a two-year program from Harvard's Center for Education Research that helps educators learn to use data to help improve their efforts. Using data from the program, LaPlante and Kibler have worked with others to bring changes to the school district.
