The Youngstown Central Area Community Improvement Corporation is trying to find someone who is interested in developing a vacant parcel of land in the city's downtown.
The property the agency would like to have developed is the only one it owns that is still undeveloped.
The parcel in question is on West Federal Street, and is a large, fenced-in hole, which is all that's left of the State Theatre and the Armed Forces Building torn down in 2008. The theater's facade is all that remains of that structure.
The Community Improvement Corporation is looking for a developer who is willing to build a new building on the site rather than a different type of project. The property is just to the west of the Wells Building, which Strollo Architects revamped at a cost of $5.3m. The Wells Building opened this past January.
Dave Kosec, who is with the CIC, said the agency has spoken to some interested parties, but nothing concrete has come from the discussions. He added that the CIC wants the project to be viable. Years ago, the agency had discussed making the site a parking lot, but Kosec said the CIC would prefer a structure on the site, since the Wells Building is now occupied.
