Youngstown authorizes funds for road repair

On Wednesday, February 15, 2017, the Youngstown City Council approved funding that will be used for both practical and aesthetic improvements in and around the city, according to an article on WFMJ.com. The council approved an amount of almost $1.5 million which it says will be used to repair Youngstown's worst roads.

John McNally, Youngstown's mayor, said that although it's not possible to repave every poor road, the council has decided to work on six main streets, and repave them during the summer months. He said they were chosen because they are the roads “that need it the most right now.”

One of the streets on the list is Bears Den Road, which is good news for Mike Sodomora, of Mike's Prestige Detailing. He says he sees city crews patching potholes, but they always return, so he's glad extensive repairs are on the way.

McCollum Road is also set for resurfacing, which makes one homeowner happy, as he says the street is in such bad shape vehicles are being damaged when they travel it. Other roads to be repaved are Oak Street, Early Road, Logan Avenue, and Gibson Street. Work is expected to start some time in July, 2017.

Projects like these can benefit if officials work with a flyer printing company, which can design a mailer for residents listing the work to be performed, a timetable, and routes that can be used as detours.
