Veterans housing project breaks ground

New housing for veterans who live in Youngstown is on the way, thanks to a project that recently broke ground.

The organization Veteran's Haven is behind the project. The plan is to build a container house that will accommodate homeless veterans in a 14-bed dwelling on a short-term basis. Graphic design is a convenient tool that can be used to visualize large projects.

Councilman Julius Oliver commented:

“It’s going to be great to have veterans in this place because this city needs to be rebuilt. To be an Army veteran, to have served this country, and now be able to serve my fellow veterans, it’s an amazing feeling to be able to bring this home to the First Ward.”

According to Veterans Services for Family and Community Services's assistant director, Brandi Parker, this project is crucial since no other project in the area is able to provide this sort of accommodation.

The project will convert the currently vacant property into a contemporary transitional shelter. The dwelling will include separate bedrooms and bathrooms for males and females. The new complex, which costs $1.2m, aims to revitalize an empty corner in Youngstown while also paying tribute to the people who risked their lives to defend the country.

The construction is expected to be completed by next fall, according to city officials.
