The goal of the Artificial Intelligence Incubator Network is to organize semiconductor workforce and education workshops with help from technology giant Intel. EGCC will be tasked with providing career and workforce accelerator training courses to help fast-track employees towards working in fields that are currently in demand.
Intel will be investing $17.7m in the project over three years. The money will go to universities and colleges in Ohio so that they can fund programs dedicated to the production of semiconductors. Corporate Gifts and donations help local universities fund special programs. EGCC’s chief development officer and vice president, Arthur Daly, commented to say:
“EGCC will be developing AI labs, with guidance from Dell Technologies, which will be in-person, online, or hybrid options. We will continue to respond to our local workforce demands to create growth opportunities for our students.”
Kent State and Youngstown State are two of the universities that will receive a portion of the investment. Youngstown State will work with 10 other universities and colleges in Ohio’s northeast region to develop training programs for microelectronics, robotics, and automation. Kent State will partner with 13 other institutions to make sure that the workforce is prepared to work in an industry that makes small electronic devices. Existing facilities will be expanded as well.
