Streetscape 2021 scheduled and seeking volunteers

Youngstown CityScape has announced when this year’s city landscaping project, dubbed Streetscape 2021: The Real Stemulus will take place as well as what areas of the community will be part of the beautification efforts.

This year volunteers will participate in the city’s 24th annual planting day in the greater downtown area. The work will include removing debris, planting shrubs, and trimming those already in place, as well as planting flowers and distributing mulch throughout the planted areas.

Landscaped public areas go a long way to making a community appear inviting. Pictures showing these areas in full bloom are generally included when promotional materials are sent to brochure printers.

Among the areas to be spruced up and planted are Central Square, John Young Memorials, West Federal Street, East Federal Street, South Avenue, Mahoning Commons, Bridge Police Memorial, B&O Station, City Hall, Choffin Hillside, Williamson Staircase, Harrison Common, Wick Park and Smoky Hollow.

Unlike past years, the volunteers in the upcoming Streetscape 2021 will not be provided with a lunch where they can all eat together. Instead, they will be presented with gift cards they can use at downtown or area restaurants.

The City of Youngstown is inviting residents to sign up to help beautify the community. To sign up for the Saturday, June 5 planting day, volunteers can call 330-742-4040 or go to https://app.donorview.com/jWYWg.
