Joe Meranto is the board’s latest addition. The board unanimously voted in favor of electing the former superintendent of Youngstown City Schools, and his term on the board begins immediately.
A seat on the board was made available when Dawn Turnage resigned. She announced that she would also be resigning from her post as Youngstown’s Parks and Recreations' Department’s director. She left those positions so that she could be recruited as an assistant director at Columbus Recreation and Parks. In total, 11 candidates were interviewed to be her replacement, no doubt sharing their Business Cards.
The board president, Tiffany Patterson, put out a news release with her endorsement for adding Meranto to the board following the unanimous vote. It read:
“The board of education had an incredible pool of applicants, and we are so humbled by everyone’s interest and support. We selected Mr. Meranto for his longtime career in education and history with Youngstown City Schools. The Youngstown Board of Education is excited to lean on his expertise and help us further our mission.”
The press release also stated how Meranto has half a decade’s worth of experience working in education. He has been a teacher and principal at parochial schools, as well as the district’s superintendent for four years, and he even worked at the Choffin Career & Technical Center for 14 years.
